OJC seeks a Systems Administrator to join our team in Urbana, Illinois. OJC offers flexible hours, full benefits, and a stimulating work environment.
An OJC system administrator enjoys helping people. They communicate frequently with our clients and staff through email and Help Desk tickets and give good technical support in person and over the phone. The systems administrator reads, speaks, and writes effectively for an audience regardless of its level of technical know-how, they can ease staff into using a new system, write good documentation, and gather user requirements.
The systems-thinker who we are looking for is able to create a parsimonious solution from a broad base of system requirements drawn from OJC staff. They are quality-oriented. The ideal candidate aims to avert system crises and decay.
A qualified candidate groks TCP/IP networking, SMTP, HTTP, ethernet, 802.11, SQL, XML, and UNIX. They take a rational approach to preventing, diagnosing, and repairing problems. The best candidate knows BSD, Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and Drupal.

Systems Administrator Job Duties:
- Configure, upgrade, and maintain servers running Linux, BSD, and Windows for diverse software development environments and client production environments.
- Support staff workstations, email, and office networking at OJC's Downtown Urbana office.
- Configure and deploy software releases into staging and production environments.
- Manage software releases and source control systems (CVS, Subversion).
- Rapidly respond to OJC Help Desk tickets. Identify and solve problems and communicate regularly with OJC's clients.
- Apply security updates to the operating system and app platforms (Drupal, Wordpress).
- Stay abreast of developments in O/S and server technologies. Take a rational approach to selecting, configuring and operating servers.
- Gather requirements in meetings and one-on-one interviews with engineers, visual designers, managers and office staff.
- Update and carry out the Systems Administration Strategic Plan.
- Design effective, parsimonious server and network configurations.
- Support and learn OJC software written in PHP, Perl, Python, C/C++, Javascript, et cetera.
